    Who Named Me?

    Having a name makes it easy for people to be able to call each other. However, choosing a great and beautiful name with a good meaning is always challenging for parents. When I was born, my parents were arguing about my name. My father wanted to be the only person who named me, but it was rejected by my mother because the name was too common and didn't have a meaning. Every time I asked my mother about my name, she always told me that my father wasn't good at picking a good name. My mother didn't like that my father always picked silly name for me. One day my aunt visited me, and she knew that they hadn't picked a name yet. Therefore, she gave me a unique and antique name.
    Supannika, I wish at that time I was able to speak and pick my own name, but I couldn't. Supannika is the yellow flower that is used for praying. In philosophy, it means the lord Buddha's flower or holy flower. When I was in school, I realized that my name wasn't like the other students. In Thailand, people often have common names with three syllables, but my name; it is four. When my teachers called my name, they also said that my name was long and sound like an old person. I went back home and asked my mother why my name sounds like an old person or was hard to say. She told me that I'm special and I'm a present from heaven. She also said having a name is just the word that people can call you, but it doesn't change who you are. I smiled and thanked her for choosing me this name. At the end she laughed and told me that she wasn't the one who chose this name. However, I would like to thank my aunt who chose a beautiful name for me.

My Unique Name

     In China, where I was born, people’s names consist of two or three characters, and a few consist of four characters. My name consists of  three characters. A n ame can follow the elders in a family , or it can be the parents’ hope that their children will have a good personality and life. I come from   half an old-fashioned family and half modern. My father’s side is very old-fashioned. Once our family had a newborn baby, my grandmother had a 丹, dan , that she gave to the new baby.
