The name I wanted

The name that my parents gave me is unique and hard to pronounce for some people. I got my first name, Jaico from my grandfather and my last name, George is from my father. Growing up in India, I never met anyone who named Jaico. I must admit that there are both advantages and disadvantages for having such a unique name. It is easier for me to find my name among a long list of people but on the other hand people can easily pick on me.

Both mine siblings are named after my maternal grandfather and paternal grandmother, but all of us have the same last name. At home my parents call me Chacko, which is a Malayalam (My native language) version of the name Jacob, and a lot of people are familiar with the name Jacob worldwide.

Hopefully, in the future if I ever get a chance to change my name, I will change it officially to Jacob George.

  1. My name is not common in Korea, too. I hated it when my teacher called my name in every class because my name was unique in high school, but now I like it because I think it's special! I hope you get the name you want!

  5. Hi Jaico! Thanks for sharing your name story. For me, each name has its unique meaning and no matter it is common or not. However some people will be discriminated when they were still children because of their special names. I know that feeling and hope you can feel more comfortable after you change your name if it is possible.
