       My name a average name in China, and does not with a special meaning. My name is from my mother. My name is Xuanyu Liu 轩宇 刘.

       During my childhood, I did not like my name because my friends made a lot nicknames for me. Even though I knew those nicknames were not hurtful, I just did not like them. In fact, I had two names. One from my grandmother and one from my mother. Before I was born, my grandmother chose a name for me. It was Guangming Liu 光明 刘. This name has a special meaning because my grandmother wanted me to be a good person when I grew up. It means she hope me to be a kind, happy, and good person. However, my mother wanted to choose my name for herself, so I got my name. When I was 16 years old, I asked my mother that why she chose my name Xuanyu Liu. She told me this name is she hoped I could be a person who will be successful. Xuan means 轩辕. It is from Chinese ancestor, people call him Huang emperor. Yu is 宇宙. It means universe, so Xuanyu means my mother wished me to be a person like our ancestor. Finally, that is why my name is 轩宇 刘 and why my mother chose

    When I was young, I hated friends who made fun of me by making a nickname with my name. Anyway, I think it's so nice that you chose your name. It's cool!

    I was also made fun of my friends with my name back in my country. When you have a unique name people can pick on you easily.

My Unique Name

     In China, where I was born, people’s names consist of two or three characters, and a few consist of four characters. My name consists of  three characters. A n ame can follow the elders in a family , or it can be the parents’ hope that their children will have a good personality and life. I come from   half an old-fashioned family and half modern. My father’s side is very old-fashioned. Once our family had a newborn baby, my grandmother had a 丹, dan , that she gave to the new baby. China has one of the most unique supper culture in the world and each city has different supper style. I have tried all styles of food in my hometown, but my favorite meal is supper. Before I came to the United States, my mother told me there are a lot Chinese restaurants in Chicago, so I can eat everything I want.
