Xuanyu Liu Oct 04, 2022 ESL 100-EC                                                        Supper Life Each county has their own style supper. China has one of the most unique supper culture in the world and each city has different supper style. I have tried all styles of food in my hometown, but my favorite meal is supper. Before I came to the United States, my mother told me there are a lot Chinese restaurants in Chicago, so I can eat everything I want. I thought I probably don’t need to worry about losing my eating habits. However, after I have been Chicago couple months, I still could not find any Hunan style supper restaurants. Therefore, it might be a long time until I can eat my hometown style supper. In China, some cities are livelier at night than in the day...

Nowhere Like Home

Image
Nowhere Like Home            Gastronomy is a part of every culture and every country. Thai cuisine is well known all over the world. Beside the taste of hot and spicy, the fragrance of the ingredients which perfectly blend, along with the rich taste are the signature that represents Thailand. It has been seven years since I decided to move to Chicago to chase my dream. I have always wanted to live abroad to experience and learn new things that I wish to accomplish in life. Sometime, living overseas alone causes me depression and anxiety, so I always seek good Thai foods to satisfy my cravings. Even though there are many Thai restaurants around Chicago, nowhere can serve delicious Thai dishes and eating culture like back in Thailand. This lack of flavor always caused me the most nostalgia.      Because my favorite dishes taste different, it lower my appetite and desire of going out to eat. Living overseas is not easy wh...

Siu ngo ’ s memory Food is a one of the most important necessities of human life   but not just for people to fill themselves up with food. In fact, some particular kinds of food can bring a lot of complicated moods and memory to people. Many people will try to find something which can make them feel like still live in their hometown.  Jaico George ESL INTG 100  October 16, 2022 Final Draft                                                         Adapting to the American Cuisine       My tastebuds are getting a good education. In the United States I can see people who are from all around the globe enjoying their own cuisine. As part of living in this country, I have to get used to American food and food from different parts of the world. It was a challenge that I had to face when I first moved from the land of spices. Coming from a culture where people use spices for most food, it has been hard adjusting to American cuisine. Although it is quite difficult sometimes, I must admit that this journey is quite exciting, and I think getting used to new food helps me understand the American culture better.            ...

Homesick

Image
I was born in a country with plenty of outdoor eating and food stall culture . I came to Chicago five years ago, and my tongue is still Chinese. When I first arrived in the United States, I was at the airport in Indiana. My brother- in-l a w and my younger sister picked me up , and on the way back to Chicago, we stopped at Mcdonald ’s. That was the first hint that told me I had come to the United States. There was no more Chinese food. Since I came to Chicago , I have lived in Chinatown. I was expecting Chinese food here because the chefs at the Chinese restaurant s in Chinatown are all Chinese. When I tried the food , the second hint told me that this was T he United States. The Chinese food all became “American Ch inese” food. Thus, now that I am here and have had to blend in with the culture and the lifestyle, I just miss the food in China.          The one thing I miss is that food carts in my hometown are everywhere. When I was ...
